International Short-Training Course on  

“Preventive Medicine in Public Health”


Course background

       Thailand has been facing challenges from various directions. At the same time, Thailand has been facing changes in its demographic structure, and is moving toward an ageing society due to the decrease in average fertility rate. As children and working population are decreasing, Thailand has to rely on migrant labor from neighboring countries, which increase health risks. Moreover, the quality of population in every age group is relatively low including underdevelopment in early childhood, low academic results in studying age, inappropriate behaviors (regarding food consumption, exercise, emotion, tobacco and alcohol consumption) of working age, and non-communicable diseases (NDCs) in elderly people, which obstruct to the country development.

The Department of Health

       Ministry of Public Health, which is the main organization to take care of health promotion and environmental health systems to ensure people’s good health, has mission on analyzing information and situations to formulate policies and design health promotion and environmental health system through cooperation, networking, and monitoring to ensure responsible implementation. The capacity building for doctors and public health personnel  on preventive medicine aims to enhance the knowledge and expertise to support their personnel to become leaders in health promotion who can lead people to have the abilities to take care of their own health which will result in sustainableself-reliance healthcare.

       At the same time, international cooperation is also vital to the development of knowledge and health services system. International cooperation can also help preventing and controlling communicable diseases on border areas, since public health issues are not domestic problems and in order to solve the problems, international cooperation, especially in CLMV (Cambodia, Laos PDR, Myanmar and Vietnam) Singapore and China is required.

       Therefore, the Short Training Course on “Preventive Medicine in Public Health” aims to equip doctors and public health personnel with knowledge and expertise in health promotion and disease prevention and control, to create cooperation on public health with CLMV, Singapore, and China, as well as to prevent the spread of communicable diseases on borders.
